The Detroit Pistons are favored to win tonight's 7:30 p.m. tipoff in Toronto, going up against a Toronto Raptors team that will not be making the postseason bracket or even the NBA Play-In Tournament this April. That sounds like a good deal for Detroit. The only issue is that the Raptors haven't gotten the memo, competing fiercely to the finish line of the 2024-25 slate.

Toronto's chances for the postseason died when the Chicago Bulls won last Tuesday's head-to-head contest. But the Raptors' offense has perked up with the sunshine, averaging 115.75 PPG over the final week of March despite injury problems.

Detroit hasn't met Toronto on hardwood since Jan. 11, when the Pistons won a lively contest 123-114. It was Detroit's fifth victory in a row against the Toronto Raptors and revenge for a similar streak that the Raptors enjoyed against the Pistons while Motor City's team swooned in 2022-23. Before that, the Pistons beat the Raptors six straight times following COVID-19.

Spread

  • Detroit has beaten Toronto in five consecutive games.
  • The Detroit Pistons are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 games against Toronto.
  • Toronto has covered the point spread more than 61% of the time this season.

Detroit Pistons vs Toronto Raptors Predictions and Picks

What looks like a minor injury for Toronto forward Scottie Barnes could become a breaking point for the Raptors' morale. Barnes's minutes will be limited in Toronto's last few games, and Immanuel Quickly's hot streaks have all too quickly turned into fatigue late in the season. That means that more than one major contributor to Toronto's scoring in 2024-25 could be missing against Detroit. Toronto's outlook as a franchise will demand that players settle down and resist sacrificing their bodies to win right now.

The Detroit Pistons have lost two in a row, though the club's most recent loss to OKC showed positives. Detroit's bigger issue is that the Pistons have injury woes of their own. RotoWire reported on Thursday that Pistons forward Tobias Harris won't play in the Toronto contest after suffering a setback with his Achilles injury against Oklahoma City. "Detroit will likely turn to Lindy Waters and Simone Fontecchio (at forward)," claims the Fantasy sports site, "to shoulder the load against the Raptors."

If the Detroit injury report is growing as full as Toronto's, that means both teams have a reason to play more of a half-court game and produce a match that moves slowly while its clock runs quickly. Consider the under-total points as a winning pick in Toronto.
